Springfield Lake conditions this year for boating:
While there has been significant improvement in the algae toxin levels due to the mitigation that was implemented by Lakemore and Springfield mid-summer last year, the levels as of this spring’s testing of cyanotoxin in the water have not dropped below the threshold for recreational waters set by the State of Ohio EPA. Therefore, the red advisory signs remain posted around the lake to alert of the potential hazard of contact with harmful algae toxins.
The signs will remain in place until those levels fall and stay below the advisory threshold. Boating, fishing and other recreation on the lake will continue as it always has as “use at your own risk,” one should just be aware that the algae toxin levels are still above the state’s threshold level.

NOW IS THE SEASON OF FALLING LEAVES AND YARD CLEAN UP BEFORE WE SEE SNOW. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR THE PROPER OPERATION OF OUR STORM AND SANITARY SEWER SYSTEMS AS WELL AS THE HEALTH OF SPRINGFIELD LAKE THAT NO LEAVES ARE BLOWN INTO ROADWAYS, CREEKS, OR STORM PIPES. THESE LEAVES AND YARD DEBRIS CLOG THE STORM PIPES, BREAK DOWN IN THE STORM PIPES, AND FORCE TO SPRINGFIELD LAKE. LEAVES AND YARD DEBRIS BREAKS DOWN AND FEEDS THE ALGAE AND CYANOTOXINS THAT ARE CURRENTLY DETERIORATING SPRINGFIELD LAKE.
LEAVES CAN BE BAGGED AND LEFT AT THE CURB FOR PICK UP.

"THE ROAD TO CLEAN WATER” …….
Keep It Free of Litter and Plastic Trash! Why should we mark the stormdrains? Because pollutants carried in our stormwater are harming the water quality in our lakes and streams. Each year people pour hazardous chemicals such as pesticides, paints, detergents, antifreeze, and used motor oil down the stormdrains. Street litter, such as cigarette butts, animal feces, leaves, grass clippings, and other wastes, are also dumped or washed into the drains. When it rains, these pollutants flow directly into the nearest pond or stream, and then to our very own water supply!
The monarchs will be leaving soon. Milkweed is essential. please read the attached article on how to help the MONARCHS |
